Peters applauds GM's Mich. production picks

General Motors Corp. executives listened to a statewide Make It in
Michigan campaign before deciding in late June to keep two Michigan
auto plants open, U. S. Rep. Gary Peters said.
Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, said he launched the Make It in Michigan initiative and Web site June 15. The effort lobbied GM
to build a small car in Michigan once the company announced in June
that it wanted to do the production in either Michigan, Wisconsin or
Tennessee.
Clark, Peters call for more funding for VA

U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, a U.S. Navy Reserve
veteran who moderated the panel discussion, called "absolutely
unconscionable" the VA's current backlog of 1 million claims for
everything from health problems to education applications. Peters
praised the proposed 11.5% increase in next year's VA budget.

GM's idled Orion Assembly Plant for the new small car GM plans to
produce. Makeitinmichigan.org includes a video of Peters asking viewers to call on GM to build the car in Michigan.

Peters amends, lauds credit card bill

An amendment to a new law to regulate credit card companies will help struggling consumers prioritize and pay off their debt, U. S. Rep. Gary Peters said.
Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, cosponsored the House version of
the bill as a member of the Financial Services Committee. He also added
an amendment that will make credit card companies prioritize customer payments and pay down the parts of their balances with the highest interest rate first.
