General Motors Corp. executives listened to a statewide Make It in Michigan campaign before deciding in late June to keep two Michigan auto plants open, U. S. Rep. Gary Peters said. Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, said he launched the Make It in Michigan initiative and Web site June 15. The effort lobbied GM to build a small car in Michigan once the company announced in June that it wanted to do the production in either Michigan, Wisconsin or Tennessee.
